IAI/Ramta Begins International Marketing of its Latest Generation On-Board Anti- Magnetic Mine Actuating System

Jun 14, 2004

Eurosatory - Paris, June 2004 - Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd. Ramta Division, a world leader in the design and production of mechanical mine breaching and electro-magnetic mine countermeasures, has begun wide scale international marketing of its third generation on-board solution against buried and surface-scattered magnetically fused landmines. The system, which completed development in the past two years, has proven effective against the latest generation of "intelligent" mines, which employ various modes of operation.

This system successfully underwent extensive testing by the US Naval Surface Warfare Center in 2003, after a similar phase of demonstrations to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Earlier generations of the system were also successfully tested and deployed by the US Marine Corps, US Army and IDF, and are in operational use in certain countries around the world.

The system detonates magnetically-influenced anti-tank mines at varying distances outside the "kill zone" of the mines to the front and sides of the host vehicle, with high levels of efficiency against the latest generation of mines which incorporate a range of triggering mechanisms. Such mines are easily deployed by air, artillery, or prior emplacement and are meant to impede or completely stop friendly forces from maneuvering in the battle space.

Highly adaptable for mounting on wheeled or tracked vehicles

Depending on specific configurations, two to four ruggedized emitters can be mounted on tanks (with or without mounted engineering equipment), armored personnel carriers, self-propelled artillery, combat engineering vehicles, as well as wheeled or tracked utility, logistic and support vehicles for use on finished and unfinished surfaces and cross-country. Electrical power is supplied by the available connecting points in the host vehicle, and do not interfere with existing vehicle electrical and electronic systems.

A separate power box houses waveform generation circuitry and control logic, while a simple-to-use control box is mounted in the vehicle's driver compartment.

Integrated training module and system upgradeability meet changing mine threats

The system has a simple man-machine interface with built-in-test equipment and fault indicators. A complete training module providing both visual and electronic feedback to exercise users is also available. The system is expandable and upgradeable to meet changing requirements.

Ramta, is IAI's center of excellence for integrated military ground systems, including light-weight, high-performance armored vehicles, mine breaching, mine clearing, and countermine equipment for use in combat/assault operations, low intensity conflicts and peacetime/humanitarian demining operations.
