Exercise Collective Effort 04
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
HEIDELBERG,
Germany (June 3, 2004) -- Exercise Collective Effort is a biennial NATO-led
Logistics Interoperability Exercise involving more than 500 soldiers, and will
take place in and around Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, from June 11-18,
2004. Participating nations include
Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, and
Poland. The newly-invited NATO
countries of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia have also been invited to
observe this exercise to make it possible to see how NATO performs such missions
and observe how it may be necessary to adapt their procedures to NATO's overall
logistics force structure.
The
exercise will focus on identifying ways to improve the interoperability of NATO
logistics systems and standardization of procedures to support future NATO
operations and to reduce necessary logistics assets in future NATO theatre of
operations. The exercise will test
the ability of a Multinational Logistics Integrated Unit (MILU) to provide
support to a multinational formation using current NATO
procedures.
In
particular, the exercise will focus on providing support between nations
involved in NATO missions. Some of
the tasks, which will be trained during the exercise include interoperability in
the areas of ammunition, fuel, and water re-supply, maintenance and recovery of
equipment, movement and transport of equipment, supporting helicopter assets,
and the overall tracking of NATO assets.
The
exercise will be set in an "Out of Area" NATO-led Crisis Response Operation
scenario. Included in the exercise
is the ability of contributing nations to provide assistance to civil planning,
and the handover of operations to the appropriate civil
authorities.
The
exercise will take place in several locations in and around Cesky Krumlov to
include the Peace Forces Training Base, Camp Podvori, New Barracks, and Ceske
Budejovice airbase.

Collective Effort 04
NATO's
Joint Headquarters Centre, from Heidelberg, Germany, is leading the exercise.
This is the first NATO-led exercise being hosted by the Czech
Republic.
Media
are invited to attend a media day that will take place on Thursday, June
17, to demonstrate the capabilities of the logistics interoperability that
exists between the NATO nations participating in this
exercise.
