Exercise Collective Effort 04

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

HEIDELBERG, Germany (June 3, 2004) -- Exercise Collective Effort is a biennial NATO-led Logistics Interoperability Exercise involving more than 500 soldiers, and will take place in and around Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, from June 11-18, 2004.  Participating nations include Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Norway, and Poland.  The newly-invited NATO countries of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Slovakia have also been invited to observe this exercise to make it possible to see how NATO performs such missions and observe how it may be necessary to adapt their procedures to NATO's overall logistics force structure.

The exercise will focus on identifying ways to improve the interoperability of NATO logistics systems and standardization of procedures to support future NATO operations and to reduce necessary logistics assets in future NATO theatre of operations.  The exercise will test the ability of a Multinational Logistics Integrated Unit (MILU) to provide support to a multinational formation using current NATO procedures.

In particular, the exercise will focus on providing support between nations involved in NATO missions.  Some of the tasks, which will be trained during the exercise include interoperability in the areas of ammunition, fuel, and water re-supply, maintenance and recovery of equipment, movement and transport of equipment, supporting helicopter assets, and the overall tracking of NATO assets.

The exercise will be set in an "Out of Area" NATO-led Crisis Response Operation scenario.  Included in the exercise is the ability of contributing nations to provide assistance to civil planning, and the handover of operations to the appropriate civil authorities.

The exercise will take place in several locations in and around Cesky Krumlov to include the Peace Forces Training Base, Camp Podvori, New Barracks, and Ceske Budejovice airbase.

2-2-2 Collective Effort 04

NATO's Joint Headquarters Centre, from Heidelberg, Germany, is leading the exercise. This is the first NATO-led exercise being hosted by the Czech Republic.

Media are invited to attend a media day that will take place on Thursday, June 17, to demonstrate the capabilities of the logistics interoperability that exists between the NATO nations participating in this exercise.
