Northern Edge 2004 in full swing

ELMENDORF AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska -- Alaska's premier joint training exercise launched its first aircraft June 7 and will continue flying operations through June 16 at Elmendorf and Eielson Air Force Bases and off the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) in the Gulf of Alaska.
During the $10 million, exercise more than 9,000 uniformed servicemembers focus their resources, efforts, skills and collective experiences on enhancing multi-service combat and defense operations.
Active duty Airmen, Sailors, Soldiers, Marines and Coastguardsmen, as well as Reserve and National Guard units, are taking part in Northern Edge '04 designed to exercise joint tactics, techniques, procedures, command and control relationships and enhance interoperability among the services.
Scenarios will include force protection, air-to-air fighter engagements, joint live-fire exercises, combat search and rescue and maritime actions.
The exercise will take place over Alaska's expansive ground and aerial training area and extensive coastline - an environment for conducting fully integrated, large-scale joint training. (Courtesy of NORTHERN EDGE '04 JIB and Pacific Air Forces News Service)
