Rheinmetall DeTec focuses its marketing phalanx in Greece

Another important step in the process of internationalisation

06/04/2004

The establishment of Rheinmetall Hellas S.A. in Athens represents a further important step in the operational implementation of the Rheinmetall DeTec group's strategy of internationalisation. In founding the new company, Rheinmetall DeTec AG of Düsseldorf, Germany, Europe's leading supplier of ground forces systems, is bringing together under a single banner its full phalanx of activities in Greece, the objective being to exploit new business opportunities and existing synergies in the longstanding Nato member state.

The systematic internationalisation of the Rheinmetall DeTec group aims at achieving a sustained increase in the percentage of sales generated outside of Germany, which in fiscal 2003 already amounted to some 57 percent of total turnover. In Greece alone, Rheinmetall DeTec expects to generate annual sales in excess of €100 million.

Appointed as Managing Director of Rheinmetall Hellas S.A. is Michael Heinzemann, hitherto a member of the management team of the former STN Atlas Elektronik GmbH (now known as Rheinmetall Defence Electronics).

For the Greek government, an important defence technology customer, Rheinmetall Hellas S.A. will constitute a competent point of contact, representing the full range of Rheinmetall DeTec products and services, ranging from the development and production of new defence technology products to the modernisation of existing systems and the provision of services such as maintenance and simulation-supported training.

Rheinmetall Hellas S.A. is owned in equal measure by Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH of Bremen, Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH of Ratingen, Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH of Kiel, and Oerlikon Contraves AG of Zurich.
