COMBINED FORCES COMMAND AFGHANISTAN RELEASE

KABUL, Afghanistan, May 26, 2004 - Tuesday evening, coalition forces on patrol south of Qalat in the Zabul Province encountered anti-coalition militia and a fire-fight ensued.

Ground forces first called in air support for a show of force but when the enemy continued to engage they upgraded their request to precision ordnance.

A coalition patrol was attacked Monday near Deh Rawod in the Oruzgan Province. There were no coalition casualties and friendly forces detained three anti-coalition militia. One AK-47, one RPG, and two RPG rounds were found on one of the detainees.

Also on Monday, four weapons caches were found in Salerno, Bari Kowt, Asadabad and Kabul. The Kabul cache contained approximately 150 82 mm mortar shells, 40 82 mm mortar fuses, 40 155 mm artillery shells, and 20 107 mm rockets.

Saturday will be the groundbreaking ceremony for the Jikdalek primary school in the Surobi district.

Next Monday will be the first day of "Official Patrol Duty" for the Kunar Highway Patrol.
