BAE SYSTEMS Announces 17 Million Contract Award Under The Future Command And Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) Programme

26 May 2004

BAE Systems Avionics Group has been awarded a 17 million contract for the supply of the Self-Defence Weapon station (SDW) for the Future Command and Liaison Vehicle (FCLV) programme by Alvis Vickers Limited.

The contract covers the supply of 326 SDWs to the programme and includes options for up to 400 additional sets of equipment. This follows the earlier selection of BAE Systems as the preferred supplier at the end of December 2003.

The Surveillance and Target Acquisition Weapon Sight (STAWS) utilises BAE Systems own world leading uncooled Thermal Imaging technology, and represents the largest contract ever let in the UK for this type of equipment.

BAE Systems as Prime Contractor brings to bear its considerable expertise as a systems integrator to deliver the Self-Defence Weapon station (SDW) by combining BAE Systems own high performance STAWS with the AEI Ordinance Systems Enforcer remote weapon system.

The company has an exclusive marketing agreement with AEI Ordnance Systems for the Enforcer covering a wide range of territories and has signed a sub contract for the supply of these for the FCLV programme. These will be manufactured/assembled by AEI in the UK.

FCLV is a key success for BAE Systems as a major supplier of EO systems for both the UK Land Forces and export customers.

Marc Ellis, Head of Land, Naval and Missile Campaigns with Avionics Group, said, This contract will provide UK Land Forces with the most capable Self-Defence Weapon currently available. These systems allow the vehicle to be operated 24 hours a day and to enable the crew to defend themselves without leaving the safety of the vehicle.
