General Dynamics Network Systems Awarded $9.76 Million to Enhance Air Force Network Capabilities
NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics Network Systems has received a $9.76 million delivery order to provide an integrated, high-bandwidth network system for the Combat Information Transport System (CITS) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
This is the third order in the past 12 months to be competitively awarded to General Dynamics to engineer, furnish, install and test network systems at Wright-Patterson. The orders have been executed under the U.S. Navy’s Voice, Video and Data (ViViD) contract, with a cumulative value of $21.3 million.
The new design will provide transport capability to meet the Air Force Materiel Command’s data, voice, and video requirements. The network design incorporates a gigabit Ethernet over a synchronous optical network (SONET), increasing the speed of data transfer by 10 times over current services. The design will also allow the seamless integration of all base functional areas into a single network.
The network will provide service to 271 buildings and 31,000 users. General Dynamics will install more than 496,000 feet of fiber optic cable, 40,500 feet of conduit and 42 manholes throughout the base, as well as install more than 17 miles of cabling to connect three service areas.
This award followed a complex survey and design phase that was performed in collaboration with the Air Force Electronics Systems Center CITS Program Office at Hanscom AFB, Mass. The CITS program is a multi-year initiative providing a high-speed, broadband, digital information transport system and the capability to integrate all existing and planned voice, video, imagery, and sensor systems including classified systems for active duty and reserve Air Force bases.
