TIKRIT, Iraq -- V Corps' 1st Infantry Division and the Coalition Provisional Authority presented checks for $500,000 to $1 million to each township in Salah Ad Din Province in a recent ceremony at the offices of the governor of Tikrit.
The funds are intended to allow each township to establish a public works program. The $6.2 million given out in the April 29 ceremony brings the total amount distributed to the province for public projects to more than $40 million.
Iraqi engineers and a provincial council made up of members from each township came up with a list of projects that needed to be accomplished and prioritized the list.
The Governor of Salah Ad Din Province, Fallah Hassan Al Naqueeb, approved the list. The first project slated is to hire Iraqi civilians to complete the projects.
