ONE FIRST INFANTRY DIVISION SOLDIER KILLED, TWO WOUNDED
TIKRIT, Iraq - One 1st Infantry Division Soldier was killed and one was wounded when their combat patrol was attacked with an improvised explosive device and small arms fire near Samarra at 5:28 p.m. May 19.
Another Soldier was slightly injured trying to put out a fire caused by the explosion.
The Soldiers returned fire, wounding three suspected attackers.
The wounded Soldiers were evacuated to the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Balad for treatment and were reported in stable condition.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
