            The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

            Spc. Richard K. Trevithick, 20, of Gaines, Mich., died April 14 in Balad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device exploded near his convoy vehicle.  Trevithick was assigned to the Army's 9^th Engineer Battalion, 2^nd Brigade Combat Team, 1^st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

            The incident is under investigation.
