Foreign troops to stay in Afghanistan for 10 years: Karzai

Berlin, April 17, IRNA -- Foreign soldiers have to remain in Afghanistan for 10 years in in order to ensure success of the peace and reconstruction process in the war-torn country, the online site of the weekly Der Spiegel magazine quoted Afghan President Hamid Karzai as saying on Saturday. "Afghanistan needs this time to build a fully functional army and police," said Karzai. The Afghan leader attended earlier this month a second international conference on the political and economic future of his country. In the conference, the international community pledged 8.2 billion US dollars for the next three years towards Afghanistan`s reconstruction process. OT/LS/210 End
