General Dynamics Awarded $9.8 Million Demilitarization Delivery Order

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded a delivery order valued at $9.8 million for the demilitarization of nine families of conventional ammunition for the U.S. Army Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island, Ill. This order, part of a $66 million firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, calls for the demilitarization of 6,800 tons of conventional ammunition, including pyrotechnics, bombs, high-explosive cartridges, Explosive D, small-caliber and improved conventional ammunition, bulk propellant, propelling charges and fuzes.

Ammunition demilitarization is a process involving the separation of the munitions’ elements, such as explosives and metal parts. Usable components are reclaimed for reuse, while the remaining elements are rendered safe for disposal.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems manufactures large- and medium-caliber ammunition, bomb bodies and precision metal components; provides explosive load, assemble and pack services for a variety of tactical missile and rocket programs; and designs and produces shaped charge warheads and control actuator systems.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 67,600 people worldwide and had 2003 revenue of $16.6 billion. The company has leading market positions in land and amphibious combat systems, mission critical information systems and technologies, shipbuilding and marine systems, and business aviation.
