General Dynamics Awarded $9 Million Contract for Air Force Information Extraction Research

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The U.S. Air Force has awarded General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a $9 million indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract to provide advanced information-extraction research, development and transition to the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. The initial value of the award is $5 million, with a potential value of up to $9 million if all options are exercised. Work under the contract will be completed by Feb. 2010.

Contract work includes enhancing the existing information-extraction systems under development by the Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate. These enhancements will decrease the amount of time users currently need to find information of interest from large amounts of text.

The contract was awarded in the name of Veridian Engineering, which was acquired by General Dynamics in Aug. 2003.
