PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (NNS) -- USS Crommelin (FFG 37) was awarded the Battle Efficiency Award, or Battle 'E', at an awards ceremony March 10 at pier Bravo 17.
The Battle "E" is awarded to a ship's crew for superior maritime performance in warfare, engineering, and command and logistics management.
Crommelin's predominant mission is submarine, surface and air warfare.
Commanding Officer Cmdr. Donald Hodge said this award is important to crew members because "it signifies what the crew did together as a team."
"With our two helicopters and advanced sonar, the crew really does a great job of hunting down submarines, and with our 76 mm guns, we do a great job at surface warfare," explained Hodge.
"This crew has really earned this," Hodge continued. "They turned and burned over the last year, day in and day out. This award is a small reminder of how hard the crew worked. It's really my pleasure to serve with the crew of USS Crommelin."
The crew feels it's good to be recognized for their efforts.
"All the late night watches, hard work and extra effort has been acknowledged, and that feels great," said Seaman Alexander Bayer. "While underway, you don't expect recognition, you're just expected to do your job. And when you do get recognized, it makes it all the better."
In addition to earning the Battle "E" award, Crommelin also earned the Ney award for Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet in the small afloat category for 2004.
