Ramstein sends aircraft to Kosovo

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) - Four aircraft assigned to the 37th Airlift Squadron flew to Kosovo yesterday to provide airlift support in response to recent ethnic clashes taking place in the region.
The squadron, which is a vital part of the 86th Airlift Wing, was tasked by U.S. European Command to provide assistance to the volatile area.
The mission of the 37th AS is to employ and re-supply U.S. and allied forces throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, as directed by Headquarters, U.S. EUCOM. The squadron deploys as an autonomous unit, performing adverse weather airdrop and air-land missions, maintenance and airdrop load preparation.
Aircraft and personnel from the 37th AS have supported Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Provide Comfort in Northern Iraq and Operation Provide Hope in the former Soviet Union, and Operation Provide Transition in Angola. More recently, members of the squadron played a major role in providing humanitarian aid to Chad.
