Iran, Lebanon review expansion of defense cooperation

Beirut, March 17, IRNA -- Iran`s Ambassador to Beirut Massoud Edrisi conferred on Wednesday with the Lebanese Defense Minister Mahmoud Hamud on expansion of defense cooperation between the two countries. Speaking to IRNA, Iran`s Military Attache to Lebanon Mohammad Ali Rahmani said that at the meeting the two sides exchanged views on implementation of agreement reached during recent visit of Iran`s Defense Minister Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani to Beirut. At the meeting, the Lebanese defense minister voiced his country`s readiness to further broaden military cooperation on defensive affairs as well as pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran within coming months. No exact date has been set for the visit, Rahmani said. The Lebanese defense minister said the visit of the Iranian defense minister was very significant to all Lebanese officials. The Lebanese defense minister expressed the hope that the two sides will benefit from each other`s capabilities and achievements to help expand military and defense cooperation. Iran`s minister of defense leading a high ranking military delegation visited Lebanon on February 27 and met high ranking Lebanese officials. 1430/AH/210 End
