TASK FORCE OLYMPIA DETAINS 23, COLLECTS WEAPONS
MOSUL, Iraq - Soldiers from 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team) detained 23 people suspected of anticoalition activities and collected weapons during operations in northern Iraq.
The brigade is under the operational control of Task Force Olympia.
Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment conducted a cordon-and-search operation for personnel suspected of plotting against and attacking coalition forces. The battalion captured 15, including seven people suspected of plotting attacks on Coalition forces.
Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment conducted a cordon and search in Mosul and detained seven people suspected of anti-Coalition activities.
In Hammam Al Alil, 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment conducted a cordon-and-knock operation, capturing one suspect as well as material for constructing an improvised explosive device.
Members of the Coalition for Iraqi Unity, a concerned group of citizens in northwestern Iraq, approached 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment at Sinjar and turned in 413 60 mm mortar rounds, nine 115 mm tank rounds, two 90 mm recoilless rifle rounds, 227 14.5 mm rounds, eight 100 mm tank rounds, one mortar sight and one mortar bipod.
A concerned group of citizens came to 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment headquarters in Tall Afar and turned in 25 60 mm mortar rounds and 28 37 mm rockets.
