STRYKER BRIGADE CAPTURES THREE, COLLECTS WEAPONS
MOSUL, Iraq - Soldiers from Task Force Olympia detained one suspect and conducted ongoing weapons collection operations in northern Iraq Sunday and Monday.
Coalition forces from Task Force Olympia conducted a cordon and search operation and detained two people suspected of anti-Coalition activities, including one suspected of having five surface-to-air missiles and providing arms to anticoalition forces.
A patrol from 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment detained one suspect after a soldier recognized the suspect. In addition to apprehending the suspect, the patrol collected one AK-47 rifle, 96 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, one rocket-propelled-grenade sight and one artillery sight. The unit is part of 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), which is under the operational control of Task Force Olympia.
In Sinjar, members of the Coalition for Iraqi Unity, a concerned group of citizens in northwestern Iraq, delivered to 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment a cache of weapons including 67 100 mm rockets, one RPG sight, one 105 mm tank round, 38 90 mm antitank rockets, 208 hand grenades, 20 60 mm mortar rounds, 41 82 mm mortar rounds, one 82 mm mortar tube and one 60 mm mortar tube.
During two weapons turn-ins at 1st Squadron, 14th Cavalry Regiment headquarters in Tall Afar, three concerned Iraqi citizens turned in 371 hand grenades, 67 82 mm mortar rounds, 62 RPG rounds, 245 hand grenade fuses, 105 60 mm mortar rounds, six sights of unknown type and two complete 60 mm mortar systems.
