White House Dismisses Claims By Aristide
White House Report, March 8: Haiti
White House spokesman Trent Duffy declined to respond to questions from reporters about comments Jean-Bertrand Aristide made March 8 at a press conference in the Central African Republic.
"Mr. Aristide has resigned his office and has left the country. Now the Haitian people are involved with grasping democracy and moving forward on an interim government. That's where the focus should be right now, and any comments that would stir up more division are not helpful, as the Haitian people move towards a greater democracy," Duffy said.
According to reports, Aristide made claims that he was still the president of Haiti at a press conference in Bangui, Central African Republic. Aristide also called for Haitians to peacefully resist what he termed an occupation of Haiti.
