Al Anbar leaders hold, plan rallies to denounce terrorist attacks
Ar Ramadi, Iraq -- Local leaders held a peaceful demonstration outside the government center here Wednesday to denounce the recent terrorist attacks in Baghdad and Karbala.
Several speakers at the event blamed outside influences wishing to cause conflict between Sunni and Shiite Muslims in Iraq. The attacks were labeled anti-Islam by several of the religious leaders who attended. Attendees chanted "Sunni and Shia will be one nation; we cannot be divided" during the rally.
Governor Berjes, a senior imam and a deputy of Al Anbar's Provincial Council, led the rally. Berjes also sent 240 liters of blood to a Baghdad hospital to help care for the wounded. He plans to urge more Iraqis to donate blood through public service announcements, he said.
Berjes has called for another, larger demonstration against violence.
