CFC-A PRESS RELEASE
KABUL, Afghanistan - In coordination with the Islamic Transitional Government of Afghanistan, Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan continues to train the Afghan National Army, provide civil affairs support, and disrupt, deny, and destroy terrorist and anti-ITGA forces in order to establish a stable and secure Afghanistan.
Since Saturday, weapons caches have either been found by Coalition Forces on patrol or turned by Afghan citizen in Konar, Nangarhar, Paktika, and Oruzgan provinces. Yesterday alone, Afghan citizens turned in three caches in Konar province containing 260 mortar rounds, 250 recoilless rifle rounds, 15 rocket propelled grenades, and more than 1000 large caliber machine gun rounds. This is another concrete demonstration of the people of Afghanistan's continuing rejection of violence.
Education continues to be a focus of the coalition's humanitarian aid here. The United States has donated $7,000 of school supplies to the Baqueer Zaneb Combination School in Kandahar which held its grand opening on Sunday. The Chenari Girls School is opening today here in Kabul, and the Parwan Province Qale Beland Girls School opening has been rescheduled for March 4 at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, the Ghazni Provincial Reconstruction Team will officially open. This represents another step in the PRT expansion process which will extend the reach of the Afghan central government by delivering security and dramatically accelerating reconstruction, development and long-term stability across Afghanistan.
