IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
New Delhi, Feb 28, IRNA -- The Israeli air force commander-in-chief, Major-General Dan Halutz, during his four-day visit to India held discussions with Indian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy on Thursday, local press reported here on Saturday. According to the Times of India, a New Delhi-based English daily, Halutz visit to India is seen to further bolster strategic and defense ties, which include tying up the loose ends for the much-awaited Phalcon deal. Major General Halutz during the trip visited some crucial air bases and other establishments, in being kept under wraps by the Indian Defense Ministry. Though the Indian Defense Ministry is tight lipped about the visit, the sources said the visit`s basic agenda is to work out the modalities for the $ 1.1-billion deal for the sale of three airborne Phalcon early warning radar and communication systems to India. India is keen to integrate the Phalcon systems with its Russian Ilyushin-76 heavy transport military aircraft to meet its long- standing requirement for AWACS. 2160/LS/210 End
