Iran, Syria set to structure military cooperation

Damascus, Feb 27, IRNA -- Iran and Syria here Thursday night stressed the importance to organize defense and military relations. In a meeting, the visiting Iranian Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani and his Syrian counterpart General Mustafa Tlass explored avenues for implementation of accords already reached between the two countries. Shamkhani outlined Iran`s great scientific, industrial, and technical potentials in defense, military, and non-military fields, voicing Tehran`s readiness to meet Syria`s needs in all fields of the state-of-the-art technology. Tlass welcomed utilization of Iran`s potentials. Iran`s defense minister, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived here Wednesday night at the invitation of his Syrian counterpart. Iran and Syria will sign a memorandum of understanding on defense and military cooperation. Shamkhani will leave Damascus for Beirut, capital of Lebanon, on Friday. SF/KK/210 End
