NAVAL AIR STATION PENSACOLA, Fla. (NNS) -- A standup ceremony was held Feb. 10 aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola, marking the official establishment of Officer Training Command Pensacola (OTCP).

This follows the establishment of the Naval Service Training Command, which aligns 98 percent of the Navy's officer and enlisted accessions training under one command headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes.

"Under one command, we have a single-minded leadership," said Officer Training Command Commanding Officer Capt. John T. Nawrocki.

The expected result: better Sailors and leaders through more efficient training.

U.S. Congressman Jeff Miller, First District of Florida, was the keynote speaker. Commander, Naval Service Training Command, Rear Adm. Ann Rondeau also participated.

"It (the new command) is a large impact to the base," said Miller, after the ceremony.

Officer Training Command Pensacola consists of the following officer accession programs: Officer Candidate School, Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer School and the Direct Commissioned Officer Indoctrination School.

Rondeau said, "Today is a fine Navy day," as it marks the establishment of a new training command aboard Naval Air Station Pensacola.

During her remarks, Rondeau also stressed the significance of a strong training foundation.

The mission of the newly-established OTCP is to develop civilians, enlisted and newly commissioned personnel morally, mentally and physically, and to imbue them with the highest ideals of honor, courage and commitment, in order to prepare graduates for service in the fleet as officer and enlisted Sailors.

Officer Training Command Pensacola is responsible for the initial accessions training of approximately 2,000 Sailors each year. Officer Candidate School commissions ensigns into naval service in all line and restricted line communities, as well as several staff corps communities. Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer School trains newly commissioned Limited Duty Officers and Chief Warrant Officers prior to their first fleet assignment as an officer. Direct Commission Officer Indoctrination School trains newly commissioned inactive Reservists.
