Indian Air Force MiG 21 plane crashes in Gujarat, one killed

New Delhi, Feb 20, IRNA -- Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-21 fighter plane crashed in Lakha Bhawana, 25 kms from Jamnagar in the Western Indian state of Gujarat Friday morning, killing one civilian and injuring 12 persons, local media reported. The type-26 plane caught fire and crashed in the village. The pilot bailed out from the MiG-21 with minor injuries. The fire brigades are trying to control the fire, sources said. As many as 31 Indian pilots were killed and the Indian Air Force (IAF) lost 68 aircraft in crashes during the last three years. Fifteen pilots were killed and 27 aircraft lost in crashes in 2000-01, nine pilots and 20 planes in 2001-02, and seven pilots 21 planes in 2002-03. 2160/AA/213 End
