UK to revise senior management structure of reserve forces

PLA Daily 2004-02-19

LONDON, Feb. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- The British Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced Wednesday that the senior management structure of British reserve forces was to be revised, including the promotion of a territorial army officer to major general.

Brigadier The Duke of Westminster, would be promoted from MoD director of reserve forces and cadets to assistant chief of the defense staff.

He would be the first reservist officer to hold such a senior post in modern times.

According to the MoD, the new two-star post was being created to provide an improved focus of key reservist issues, such as mobilization planning and relations with civilian employers, and ensure better integration between the Regular and Reserve Forces.

The establishment of the new post and the promotion of the brigadier were expected to take effect in March, the ministry said, adding that the post would be tri-service, so officers from the Reserves of all three Services would be eligible for consideration in the future.
