Slovak to send more troops to Afghanistan

PRAGUE, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet)- The Slovak government approved a plan of dispatching additional troops to Afghanistan on Tuesday. The 17-member new contingent consists of 16 engineers and one army officer is expected to leave by the end of May.

Slovak currently has 40 engineers in Afghanistan at present, and they will be joined by an additional platoon of mine disposal specialists.

According to the proposal of Slovak Defense Ministry, the increase of troop in Afghanistan will cost about 70 million crowns.

The troop reinforcement plan is subject to the approval by Slovak parliament.
