TOKYO, Feb. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- US military aircraft will make a refueling stop at a civilian airport in south Japan's Okinawa Prefecture on their way to and from a joint US-Philippine war exercise planned in the Philippines this month.
According to Kyodo News, local authorities have been notified by US forces that four CH-46 helicopters and one KC-130 refueling plane belonging to the US Marine Corps in Okinawa will stop at Shimojijima airport on Friday and on March 11.
The refueling plane will supply each helicopter with fuel on the ground as the airport on the island will not be supplying fuel, the news agency said.
The US aircraft are scheduled to participate in the Balikatan 2004 war exercises to be held from Feb. 23 to March 7.
The Okinawa prefectural government is continuing to ask the US military not to use civilian airports except in emergencies.
