TF OLYMPIA MEETS WITH NGOs IN NORTHERN IRAQ
MOSUL, Iraq - Members of Task Force Olympia met with leaders of nongovernmental organizations in northern Iraq Sunday.
The Ministry of Humanitarian Assistance and Cooperation hosted the meeting that was attended by 15 nongovernmental organizations with representatives from Great Britain, Japan, France, the United States and Iraq as well as civil affairs soldiers from Task Force Olympia.
The organizations cover a wide variety of issues and services across the region from health and medical issues to the Makhar refugee camp. Task Force Olympia provides the groups with humanitarian information and assistance to help them accomplish their mission.
"Our goal is not to direct or drive operations," said Col. Tom Knight, the deputy commander of Task Force Olympia told the representatives of the nongovernmental organizations. "We want to support or augment you in any way we can. We are all on the same team."
During the meeting, the organizations outlined what their missions are in northern Iraq. The groups also brought their questions and concerns regarding military and civilian assistance in the region. Soldiers from Task Force Olympia addressed as many issues as possible and assured those in attendance that they would look into other issues in detail.
