Russian military plane crashes, no casualties

MOSCOW, Feb. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A Russian Su-24 warplane crashed inthe country's Far East region Thursday morning, but the two pilotssurvived and no casualties on the ground was reported, Interfax news agency reported.
The military jet crashed at 6:52 a.m. Moscow time (0352 GMT), while making a scheduled flight over the Khurba airfield not far from the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, which is about 6,200 kilometers east of Moscow.
"The pilots managed to eject. Neither casualties, nor destruction was reported from the scene of the crash," said Alexander Drobyshevsky, spokesman for the Russian air force.
The spokesman contributed the cause of the crash to "malfunctions in the wing mechanism which sets the plane in a landing mode."
The pilots steered the plane to a safe area and ejected 30 kilometers from the airfield. They were discovered by a search andrescue team and are receiving medical examination, according to the official. Enditem
