Time to put differences behind and get back to business: NATO Chief
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Feb 7, IRNA -- NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer Saturday in Munich appealed to the transatlantic community to `put the differences of the past behind`, underlining that it was `time to get back to business`. "Over the past few weeks I have been visiting several allied capitals, on both sides of the Atlantic and I came away (...) with one strong message: it is time to put the differences of the past behind us. It is time to get back to business," de Hoop Scheffer said. The NATO chief who was addressing the 40th international security conference in Germany`s southern city of Munich, said there were `too many threats on the horizon, too many challenges for us to tackle`, notably through terrorism and the threat of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. "The transatlantic community has realized that we have no more time to waste. Transatlantic cooperation is the most effective way to meet these challenges," de Hoop Scheffer said. According to the official, `open security dialogues among like-minded allies and profound security cooperation in the framework of NATO are the best ways to balance the burden of getting the job done`. Some 250 ministers, senior officials and defense experts from over 30 countries are taking part in the two-day conference which will focus on the future of transatlantic ties, NATO and the developments in the Middle East. 2052/AH/210 End
