India`s MiG-23 crashes, pilot killed in Rajasthan

New Delhi, Feb 7, IRNA -- An Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-23 fighter aircraft Saturday crashed while participating in an exercise over Pokhran Range, 40 km from Jaisalmer in the western Indian state of Rajasthan, killing the pilot, local media reported here on Saturday. The crash occurred at 9:30 a.m. (local time) when the warplane was taking part in a `range sortie`, an Indian Air Force spokesman here said. Police have cordoned off the area, where the remains of the aircraft lay scattered. The voice recorder and black box of the crashed aircraft has been recovered. The IAF has ordered a high-level inquiry into the plane crash, the sources added. 2160/AH/210 End
