Uganda to host AU defense minister meeting
PLA Daily 2004-02-02
KAMPALA, Jan. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Uganda will host a meeting of 13 defense ministers from eastern Africa in February.
Ugandan Minister of State for Defense Ruth Nankabirwa made the announcement on Thursday here, saying that the meeting would precede the African Union (AU) heads of state summit due in Tripoli on Feb. 28.
She said the heads of state of AU members would endorse a proposal for the establishment of Africa's standby force to intervene in conflict on the continent.
She said that once established, the force would play a leading role in preventing, managing and resolving conflicts.
She added that Uganda would contribute troops and resources towards the creation of the force.
