
Rocket Attack Kills 1 Soldier, Injures 12
American Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2004 -- One 4th Infantry Division soldier was killed and 12 others were wounded during a rocket attack on Logistics Support Area Anaconda near Balad, Iraq, Feb. 1.The injured soldiers were taken to the 31st Combat Support Hospital for treatment. A Combined Joint Task Force 7 news release today said two of the soldiers were in serious condition, six were in stable condition and four were treated for superficial wounds and returned to duty.
One soldier was killed and two others were injured Feb. 1 when their humvee rolled over near the town of Haditha. The injured soldiers were evacuated to area military facilities, a news release said, and no report was available on their condition.
The names of the dead and injured soldiers are being withheld until their families are notified.
No troops were injured in a bunker explosion around midnight Feb. 1, another news release said. The explosion happened in the area covered by the 1st Battle Group of the 4th Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team. The news release said soldiers detected people present just before the explosion, and that the likely cause was an attempt to steal materials from the bunker.
