Possible Eurocorps mission in Afghanistan: FAZ

Berlin, Jan 26, IRNA -- Paris is considering an engagement of commanding officers of Europe`s joint army, Eurocorps, in the NATO-led operations in Afghanistan, press reports said here Monday. "Such a mission is being studied jointly with the NATO," the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) said referring to a French Defense Ministry statement over the weekend. The Eurocorps, currently led by France and Germany, was set up in 1992 and consists of a 60,000-man strong force drawn together from the armed forces of the five member states Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg and Spain. Accepted as a rapid reaction force by NATO, Eurocorps has in the past joined NATO operations in Bosnia and Kosovo. 2052/213 End
