Lockheed Martin Wins $7.2 Million Contract for MH-60 Operational Test Program Sets for Common Cockpit Processors

OWEGO, NY, January 15th, 2004 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] has been awarded a $7.2 million contract by the U.S. Navy to design, develop and integrate Test Program Sets (TPSs) that can be used by avionics maintenance technicians at intermediate maintenance activities around the world and at sea for troubleshooting and repairing common cockpit weapons replaceable assemblies (WRA).

This contract funds the development and deployment of Lot B TPSs to support MH-60R and MH-60S flight management and mission computers. Lot B is the next phase of the Navy's plan to make diagnostic capability available at intermediate maintenance depots. Designed as an organic diagnostics solution, TPSs check common cockpit processors and provide immediate fault call-out messages that identify failed components.

"Using these test program sets, a maintenance operator can troubleshoot and repair MH-60S and MH-60R assemblies at sea or in port, allowing the Navy to repair units and return them to flight readiness status," said Jeff Bantle, vice president of Multi-Mission Solutions for Lockheed Martin. "Our solution reduces the need to send entire assemblies back to the manufacturer, and improves the Navy's ability to keep essential aircraft flying. It's one more step toward providing our customer with total support."

TPSs consist of hardware, diagnostic software, data and documentation capable of performing verification, alignment, adjustment, fault detection and isolation and interface adapters designed to interconnect with the U. S. Navy's Consolidated Automated Support System (CASS), which further ensures cost-effective and reliable field support for the Navy's current and future MH-60 fleet needs.

Lockheed Martin will deliver two prototype and 25 production units, including a final test demonstration by December 2006. The TPSs will be deployed aboard 12 U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, 12 L-class ships and at land-based naval air stations in the United States, Japan and Italy.

Lockheed Martin is the systems integrator for the MH-60R and provides the cockpit, which is common to all MH-60S and MH-60R helicopters. Sikorsky designs and manufactures the MH-60S and MH-60R aircraft and is responsible for the mechanical and electrical modifications on the airframe.
