COMBINED FORCES COMMAND AFGHANISTAN RELEASE
KABUL, Afghanistan -- Continuing humanitarian efforts, coalition civil affairs Soldiers along with a medical-veterinarian team from Deh Rawood firebase traveled 16 kilometers east to the village of Deraw Saturday. The medical team treated 150 villagers and the veterinarian treated 344 animals. We also distributed more than 150 dental hygiene kits, 200 bottles of vitamins, 65 pairs of shoes, 35 boxes of food, and an assortment of toys to the children.
The U.S. funded bridge over the Pyanj River will be built near the border crossing of Nizhni-Pyanj. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil engineers have completed the site survey and are analyzing the results. Construction on the 670-meter long bridge should begin in early 2004, and once begun is expected to take 18 months to complete.
