Pratt & Whitney's Military Aftermarket Services receives Total Systems Support contract from U.S. Air Force valued at up to $336 million
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., January 6, 2004 - Pratt & Whitney's (P&W) Military Aftermarket Services (MAS) group received a follow-on contract from the U.S. Air Force (USAF) to provide overhaul and repair support, including contractor furnished material, for their fleet of F100-PW-229 engines powering F-15E and F-16C/D fighters. Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center (OC-ALC) at Tinker Air Force Base issued the contract.
The USAF Total Systems Support II (TSS II) contract deliveries begin in 2004. The contract is an indefinite-quantity type contract with the potential for orders up to a value of $166 million to cover activities for the first two years of performance; there are also four one-year options that, if exercised, would bring the total potential contract value to $336 million. The overhaul work will be performed by P&W MAS' San Antonio Engine Center in Texas; various other P&W facilities around the United States will perform all other activities related to the contract.
TSS II, as well as its predecessor TSS I contract, requires P&W to not only provide overhaul and repair services for the -229 engines, it also requires the company to manage a full range of related services that are not typically performed by contractors. These activities include spare part replacement, materials forecasting, and engine pick-up and delivery. Turn-around times are aggressive, requiring P&W and the USAF to work closely together to forecast needs based upon field usage.
"Pratt & Whitney performed superbly under the first TSS contract," said Colonel John Thompson, Director of Propulsion, OC-ALC/LP. "F100-PW-229 spare engine levels were consistently maintained. As the U.S. Air Force enters into the TSS II program, we look forward to continued readiness and exceptional support from Pratt & Whitney for the -229 engines."
Lloyd "Fig" Newton, senior vice president of military customers at P&W, said, "We are pleased that the U.S. Air Force continues to show such confidence in Pratt & Whitney's Military Aftermarket Services team. TSS II provides best value as well as outstanding readiness to our Air Force customer. We look forward to providing superior service on this very important program as we further strengthen our partnership with Tinker Air Force Base."
