CIVIL MILITARY OPERATIONS CONTINUE TO PRODUCE POSITIVE RESULTS IN AL ANBAR

Task Force All American soldiers continue to work with Iraqis in the Al Anbar Province to improve civil military operations in the region.

82d Airborne Division Civil Affairs personnel with 3rd Brigade met with local officials in Haswah to finalize payment for renovation work to the Haswah Police Department Headquarters building. Repairs were completed on Dec. 19 and cost $10,600 using local contractors.

The civil affairs teams with 1st Brigade worked with local officials in Ar Ramadi to install computers in the city's police stations. Thirty computers, numerous desks and chairs were purchased with $9,000 of CERP funds. Once installed, they will provide e-mail capability and a computer database for the department to improve its efficiency. Installation will be completed on January 15. Then, we will train eight primary operators who will train other officers on the system.

Coalition soldiers escorted 26 Jordanian fuel trucks and the Al Anbar Trucking Company continues to increase its contributions to the local economy. Drivers moved food, water, and repair parts in the area.

In the Ar Ramadi area, 195 Iraqi Civil Defense Corps recruits and 113 police academy cadets graduated today at the Security College.

Troopers from 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment continued with civil military operations in the Rawah area. Over $140,000 has been committed to assist in the renovation of a medical clinic, a sanitation building, the city hall building, water stations, the electric office, and construction at the Mayor's Office. Those efforts will continue until after the first of the year.

To assist in CEA ammunition reduction, 663 Iraqis were employed and we used 35 contracted trucks yesterday. Our combined efforts in the 82nd Airborne Division's area of operation resulted in the safe evacuation of 291 short tons of munitions and the de-milling of another 134 short tons.

Coalition forces and members of Task Force All American continue to work joint projects with Iraqis to facilitate a return to self-rule and to make Iraq a safe secure area for its citizens.
