General Dynamics Awarded $5 Million to Redesign Air Force Networks
NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics Network Systems has been awarded $5 million to redesign major network components of the Air Force Combat Information Transport System (CITS) intranet. General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
Under this nine-month delivery order, called CITS Block 30, General Dynamics will redesign the Air Force unclassified (Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network, or NIPRNET) and classified (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network, or SIPRNET) network operations/information assurance (NO/IA) system.
This award will enable the Air Force to take advantage of the latest network technologies, which offer significantly more capability and scalability than the networks that are in place today. Additionally, the redesign offers the opportunity to enhance the Air Force’s security posture, improve management capabilities, and consolidate NO/IA staffing at the network operations and security centers and continuity of operations sites, greatly enhancing efficiency and conserving scarce resources. This effort, providing for service to both the unclassified and classified networks in Block 30, allows for commonality of architecture, equipment, and training.
General Dynamics will provide a wide range of experienced technical and program management expertise, including system and network engineering, and hardware and software in support of the redesign of the Air Force NIPRNET and SIPRNET Architectures.
“This award exemplifies General Dynamics’ leadership in providing secure network capabilities in support of network centric operations, not only to the Air Force but to the entire DoD,” said Dan Allen, senior vice president and general manager of General Dynamics Network Systems. “It builds on our very successful Pentagon Renovation program and other efforts throughout the military services.”
This competitively awarded delivery order continues a successful evolution of services that General Dynamics delivers to the CITS program office. General Dynamics regularly delivers base level network infrastructure to the Air Force CITS program and has delivered the base backbone transport systems within the U.S. at eight Air Force bases over the last year. Overseas, General Dynamics has delivered systems to Anderson, Incirlik, Kunsan, and Yokota Air Bases. General Dynamics is also currently performing network integration efforts at seven Air Force bases, as well as Cape Canaveral AFS and Hurlburt Field, Fl.
