CIVIL AFFAIRS WORKS TO IMPROVE HEALTH, EDUCATION AND SAFETY

AR RAMADI, Iraq - Civil affairs personnel met with local officials in Al Karmah to discuss plans to provide potable water to the nearby village of Kaifa. Since the village does not have access to potable water or the infrastructure to supply it, the team prepared a request through the Coalition Provisional Authority to purchase two water trucks to assist in the effort. This will serve as a short-term solution until water distribution lines are built from Al Karmah to the village.

Civil affairs teams also met with local leaders in Ar Ramadi to review the scope of work for three schools and finalize plans to repair those facilities. These projects will cost an estimated $48,000. Upon completion of the projects, Coalition Forces will provide the students with school supplies and backpacks.

Additionally, civil affairs teams met with local officials in Akashat to review their operating budget and present them with $10,000 for general operating use. Teams finalized plans for installing streetlights to help alleviate safety concerns and reduce crime in the city.

Work on this project is scheduled for completion by January 15th.
