Afghanistan: Militants Kill UN Worker

Kandahar, 4 December 2003 (RFE/RL) -- Suspected Taliban militants today ambushed a UN convoy carrying census workers in southwestern Afghanistan, killing one Afghan UN worker and wounding 11 others.

Abdul Karim Baravi, a governor of Farah province, said the attack occurred some 80 kilometers west of Kandahar.

Earlier, the U.S. military said coalition forces skirmished with suspected Taliban militants in southern Afghanistan today. There were no reported injuries.

Also today, Afghan police and members of the international stabilization force in Kabul said they have arrested at least two suspected members of Hezb-e Islami, a group accused of conducting acts of terrorism.
