As part of the Skjold Prime Consortium, Armaris, and two Norwegian companies, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and UMOE Mandal Umoe Mandal naval shipyard, will upgrade the prototype and build five new Skjold-Class Fast-Patrol Boats for the Royal Norwegian Navy.

This industrial consortium will assure prime contractor responsibilities for upgrading the prototype and building five new Skjold Class Fast Patrol Boats for the Royal Norwegian Navy. These boats will be delivered between 2006 and 2009.

The Skjold Class Fast Patrol Boats are stealth Surface Effect Ships with a top service speed of 60 knots.

In cooperation with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, Armaris is responsible for supplying and integrating the six combat systems, based on the SENIT 2000 system. Successfully developed by DCN with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, SENIT 2000 combat integrated system has been already selected for upgrading 14 Norwegian "Hauk" Class Patrol Boats, for which the twelfth unit was delivered last November.

These DCN combat systems incorporate new functions, including in particular a 3D radar system supplied by Thales Naval France, a Naval Strike Missile from Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, a radar ESM supplied by EDO, USA, a fire control tracker from SaabTech, a 76mm gun from Oto Melara and DCN interface for NATO data link L 16.

The value of the contract for the consortium is approximately 500 million Euros, with Armaris share corresponding to 127 million Euros.

Armaris, a joint venture of DCN and Thales, launched operational activities on 1 September 2002, with the intention of assuring project management in naval programs for export and international cooperation programs so as to develop the naval export activities of DCN and Thales Naval France in the area of warships and combat systems.
