Berlin confirms cancellation of Sharon`s visit to Germany
IRNA
Berlin, Nov 28, IRNA -- The German government Friday confirmed foreign press reports that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had cancelled his upcoming trip to Germany. "The Israeli government has informed us of the cancellation, citing domestic issues as the reason," German government spokesman Bela Anda told the press. He rejected "any links" between Sharon`s cancellation and Berlin`s decision to halt unexpectedly the delivery of two German `Dolphin` submarines to Israel. The German government had voiced strong concerns after Israel had modified three other German-made submarines with nuclear warheads. Germany built and delivered at no charge the three `Dolphin` submarines for Israel in 1999 and 2000. Although the German government is legally banned from exporting arms to crises regions, Germany has become one of Israel`s major arms supplier. German arms exports to Israel totalled some 900 million dollars between 1998 and 2001. OT/210 End
