INTRO: In Afghanistan, police are investigating an explosion that rocked a luxury hotel in the capital, Kabul, Saturday evening. V-O-A's Michael Kitchen reports from neighboring Pakistan that the blast caused only minor damage and no casualties.

TEXT: Afghan authorities and international peacekeepers say the explosion occurred in a garden, about 20 meters from Kabul's Intercontinental Hotel.

One Afghan official says the blast shattered windows, but caused no other damage to the building. A nearby wall was also reported damaged.

Police are investigating the incident, which they say may be linked to an anti-government insurgency, authorities say is led by remnants of the country's former Taleban rulers.

/// OPT ///

Conflicting accounts attributed the explosion to either a rocket or a planted bomb.

/// END ACT ///

The Intercontinental, one of Kabul's most expensive hotels, is located within a guarded compound and is popular with foreign visitors.
