General Dynamics Canada Introduces a Portable, Real-Time Biological Agent Point-Detector System
CALGARY, AB – General Dynamics Canada today introduced the 4WARN Sentry, an advanced, portable, real-time biological agent detection system, at the 2003 Emergency Management Homeland Security Expo, 17-19 November 2003, in Orlando, Fla. General Dynamics Canada is a wholly-owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
The briefcase-sized 4WARN Sentry is a fully automated, third-generation biological-agent detection system based on field-proven, fluorescence particle detection technology. The 4WARN Sentry has the ability to detect all aerosolized biological agents extremely rapidly, typically in less than 20 seconds.
Networked or operated as a stand-alone point detection system, the 4WARN Sentry enables Homeland Security and “first responder” agencies to defend against, and manage the consequences of, terrorist use of biological agents.
“The 4WARN Sentry represents a significant shift in the consequence-management paradigm, enabling Homeland Security agencies to detect the presence of airborne biological agents in time to initiate appropriate defensive measures,” said David Dean, vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Canada’s Communications, Command, Control and Integrated Sensor Systems Operations. “This product is based on the proven performance of systems already in service with the Canadian Department of Defence, and incorporates the latest advances in General Dynamics’ bio defense detection technology.”
General Dynamics Canada is Canada’s leading defense electronics company, with more than 50 years’ experience in systems integration and innovative, high-technology solutions. More information about this and other General Dynamics Canada products is available at www.gdcanada.com.
