SOLDIERS CONTINUE TO FIND WEAPONS, BUILD RELATIONS

AR RAMADI, IRAQ - Soldiers from the 82d Airborne Division conducted missions in order to stop violence and violent intentions from insurgents who oppose the peace process Nov. 15.

Soldiers of the "All-American" Division, as the 82 ABN DIV are known, went on 182 patrols, nine of which were joint patrols with members of the Iraqi Border Guard and Iraqi policemen. One cordon and search mission and an air assault raid were also conducted over the last 24 hours. These operations resulted in the detention of nine individuals.

Task Force soldiers also confiscated seven AK-47s and 10 mortar rounds of varying sizes.

In a separate incident, a local Iraqi provided information to soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment that led to a house near the Husaybah border that contained weapons. Soldiers immediately searched the house and found over 500 bangalore torpedoes, grenades, detonators, and several improvised explosive device making materials.

Additionally, civil affairs personnel will begin rehabilitation work on the Lutifiyah Teba Primary School. This project will continue to foster the strong relationship that Coalition Forces are building with the town's 80,000 residents.

Also, civil affairs teams distributed approximately 45,000 textbooks to local primary schools in Al Qa'im. Teachers welcomed the new textbooks because they were able to begin teaching a new curriculum, instead of that established by the Ba'ath party and the former regime.

Soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division, 1st Infantry Division, and 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment continue to carry out their missions to ensure that Iraq will continue to progress as a peaceful and stable country for its citizens.
