Lockheed Martin Conducts First Compact Kinetic Energy Missile Flight Test At White Sands Missile Range

Dallas, TX, November 11th, 2003 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] successfully conducted the first controlled flight test of the Compact Kinetic Energy Missile (CKEM) recently at White Sands Missile Range, NM. The test demonstrated multiple missile component capabilities in an operational environment. All test objectives were achieved.

"The successful CKEM flight test conducted by Lockheed Martin further substantiates the technology readiness level of the CKEM technology," said George Snyder, CKEM Program Manager for the U.S Army. "It demonstrates the ability of the Army's Aviation Missile Research Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) and industry to work together to develop, demonstrate and as rapidly as possible transition capabilities to the soldier. This is yet another milestone paving the way for a successful CKEM Advanced Technology Demonstration (ATD) program, which can provide the Future Combat System (FCS) the capability to provide overwhelming lethality against the most advanced current and future armored ground threats."

The CKEM is the next generation hypervelocity anti-tank missile. It is 60 inches long and weighs less than 100 pounds. It has an extended range for direct fire, line-of-sight engagements and will provide the FCS Unit of Action (UA) Infantry companies overwhelming lethality overmatch, high probability of first round kill and near fire-and-forget capability.

"Lockheed Martin has a long history of successfully designing, developing and producing hit-to-kill missile systems that are fielded and now combat-proven," said Ron Abbott, vice president - Tactical Missiles for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "Our efforts on CKEM leverage that experience to ensure our customers receive the best available capability that utilizes proven, low-risk technologies."

Lockheed Martin received a $21.3 million contract to begin an ATD of the CKEM in September of this year. Work on the contract will be performed at the company's facilities in Dallas, TX, and Camden, AR.

The CKEM System Development and Demonstration (SDD) program is scheduled to begin in FY'06. The CKEM weapon system development and acquisition schedule could support the CKEM SDD in FY'06, the FCS fielding and Stryker Brigades.
