INTRO: The U-N Assistance Mission in Afghanistan says a car bomb exploded outside its offices in the southern city of Kandahar. The blast reportedly injured one man, who was driving by the scene on a motorcycle. V-O-A's Michael Kitchen reports.

TEXT: U-N officials say the explosion occurred late in the afternoon, damaging part of the U-N compound.

Afghan police are not commenting on the incident, but have launched an investigation into what was apparently a car bombing.

The city of Kandahar was previously the center of the Taleban movement, Afghanistan's former hard-line religious rulers.

Wednesday is the second anniversary of the Taleban's surrender of the Afghan capital, Kabul, during the 2001 war that led to their ousting. (SIGNED)
