India test fires supersonic anti-ship cruise Brahmos missile

IRNA

New Delhi, Nov 10, IRNA -- Brahmos, the supersonic anti-ship cruise
missile jointly developed by India and Russia, was on Sunday
successfully tested from the Interim Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur
near Balasore in the eastern Indian state of Orissa for the fifth
time, India`s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO)
sources said.
According to media reports, Brahmos which has a target range of
290-km with capability to carry 200 to 300 kgs payload of conventional
warhead, was test fired from a mobile launcher at 12:04 p.m.
(local time) on Sunday.
After achieving the precision guidance capability in surface-to
surface from a fixed launcher in its fourth trial on October 29,
the missile was test fired to check its other parameters Sunday and a
mobile launcher was used for trial, defense sources said.
It can be fired from multiple platforms which included ship, land,
submarine and air, sources added.
Though primarily an anti-ship missile, Brahmos also has the
capability to engage shore-based radio-contrast target, they said.
The missile is marginally over eight meters in length and 670 mm
in diameter.
